About us
Café Fríða opened its doors on March 1st, 2014,
…becoming a landmark for tourism in the Northern Faroe Isles and a pioneer in Faroese café culture. Our menu changes with the seasons, and our cakes, all baked on-site, have earned a great reputation. The cozy atmosphere makes guests feel right at home.
The café is named after the historic boat Royndin Fríða, built illegally by the Faroese pioneer Nólsoyar Páll. This boat played a significant role in Faroese history, and the restored house of Nólsoyar Páll, now a museum and event space, stands as a testament to that legacy. Café Fríða maintains a special connection with this heritage site.
Relocating to the center
Located in the heart of Klaksvík, near the waterfront, the café sits where rebels and visionaries once met, embodying the entrepreneurial spirit that still thrives in the town. It was also here that Royndin Fríða docked during voyages to Europe. Due to growing popularity, the café relocated to a larger space in August 2021.
The team
Mimmy
With a diverse background in Denmark’s hotel and café industry, Mimmy also served as a personal assistant to renowned artist Anne Linnet for three years. After becoming a mother in 2006, she pursued studies in restaurant, hotel, and management. Driven by a clear vision, Mimmy returned to the Faroe Islands and founded Café Fríða in 2014
Bjørg
Bjørg joined Café Fríða as our baker in 2015 and became a business partner in 2021 during the café’s expansion. She oversees all baking in the on-site cakery, creating a wide selection of cakes. With a passion for developing new recipes, Bjørg is dedicated to offering options that include allergy-friendly treats, ensuring all guests can enjoy her creations.
Responsible Business
Sustainability has been central to Café Fríða from the start. Environmental and social responsibility guide every aspect of our operations.
Community Engagement
Outside of regular hours, we offer our space free of charge to local social clubs, youth groups, and philanthropic organizations for events and meetings. For private parties, we charge a rental fee. We believe a café should reflect and support the local community, providing a space for all voices, ideas, and experiences. Everyone is welcome, regardless of background or social status. The only rules: respect others, respect the café, and respect the environment.
